Our Projects

We create results. Stop Wasting Food is Denmark’s biggest movement against food waste – and we have initiated the fight against food waste in Denmark. Since 2008, we have both initiated and participated in over 200 local, national and international projects, events, campaigns, charity projects, research projects, debates and many other activities in the fight against food waste. Knowledge Center

Denmark’s and Nordic first virtual National Knowledge Center for Food Waste with focus on data collection on food waste. The Knowledge Center is financially supported by Metro-Schrøder Foundation and The Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Save & Help campaign

National Save & Help campaign by Stop Wasting Food, Danish People’s Aid and KIWI Denmark retail chain, which aims to reduce food waste while helping food insecure families. 1 DKK from every sold food product marked with a Save & Help sticker goes to the Danish People’s Aid.

CHRISTMAS SURPLUS

The annual national charity project CHRISTMAS SURPLUS by Stop Wasting Food, Danish People’s Aid and REMA 1000 retail chain, where volunteers collect tonnes of good Christmas surplus food from REMA 1000 supermarkets and distribute the free food to food insecure families.

Education campaign

Free education campaign “Stop Food Waste” for schools, made in collaboration with The Danish Union of Teachers and many others – and financially supported by The Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The campaign’s education materials are downloaded over 4,900 times.

Collaboration with EU

Stop Wasting Food is a Member of European Commission’s EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste – among many acknowledged stakeholders, such as The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Collaboration with UN

Stop Wasting Food is a Partner in the United Nations’ global SAVE FOOD initiative, Partner in the FAO/UNEP campaign Think.Eat.Save, is mentioned in several UN reports and publications on food waste and speaker at the UN SAVE FOOD World Congress.

REFOOD label

Stop Wasting Food is a co-founder of the REFOOD label, a national certification for foodservice sector, such as canteens and restaurants, to highlight their work towards less food waste and more recycling.

Charity Dinner

Charity Dinner to support the CHRISTMAS SURPLUS project, hosted by the Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark, Stop Wasting Food and Danish People’s Aid with participation of His Royal Highness Prince Joachim of Denmark and Her Royal Highness Princess Marie of Denmark.

FOOD SURPLUS

FOOD SURPLUS is a project powered by Danish People’s Aid, Stop Wasting Food and Spotmarket. It aims to reduce food waste in the food industry and provide free food to food insecure families. The project is financially supported by The Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Doggybags

Since 2013, Stop Wasting Food and Unilever Food Solutions have distributed over 60,000 free doggybags to 200+ Danish cafés and restaurants. A TNS Gallup survey for Stop Wasting Food has revealed that every 2nd Dane will accept doggybags.

Leftovers Cookbook

Stop Wasting Food published an award winning Leftovers Cookbook “Stop spild af mad – en kogebog med mere” at Denmark’s biggest publishing agency Gyldendal with participation of Danish celebrity chefs and acknowledged Danish food personalities.

Charity work

Since 2011, Stop Wasting Food, partners and volunteers have saved and distributed 300+ tonnes of free good surplus food to Danish charities and food insecure families.

Op-eds with Ministers

Since 2010, Stop Wasting Food’s Founder Selina Juul has written 190+ articles, op-eds and blog entries on food waste in Danish and international media, among them op-eds with 7 Danish Ministers and other politicians. Today, she writes on food waste for The Huffington Post USA.

Events against food waste

Stop Wasting Food and partners launched the United Against Food Waste events feeding 6,000+ people. Events were held in Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Norway.

Government collaboration

Since 2010, Stop Wasting Food had good collaboration with the Danish Government. Stop Wasting Food has collaborated with 3 Danish Governments in a row, and has a collaboration with the present Danish Government.

Information campaigns

Stop Wasting Food and the movement’s many ambassadors and volunteers launched many information campaigns as well as annual press campaigns to educate the consumers on how to reduce food waste.

Roskilde Festival

In 2014, Stop Wasting Food, partners and volunteers have saved and distributed 27,5 tonnes of free good surplus food from Roskilde Festival to the Danish charities. The initiative has won an international acknowledged festival award Green Operations Award.

Media coverage

Since 2008, Stop Wasting Food has generated 7,000+ Danish and international media coverages and well as 200+ TV appearances. Media in USA, China, Japan, India, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, England and many other countries have featured Stop Wasting Food’s work.

Book contributions

Stop Wasting Food is mentioned in 25+ Danish and international books on food waste, and has contributed to several of these books

Publication contributions

Stop Wasting Food is mentioned in 20+ Danish and international reports and publications on food waste, and has contributed to 7 international reports and publications on food waste.

Charter

Stop Wasting Food is a co-signer of Ministry for the Environment of Denmark’s Charter Against Food Waste – and has a seat in the Danish Government’s Partnership against Food Waste.

Declaration

In 2010, Stop Wasting Food co-signed the Joint Declaration Against Food Waste together with several European organizations. The Declaration aimed at reducing food waste by at least 50% by year 2025 – and served as inspiration for EU and UN to set goals for food waste reduction.

EU FUSIONS

Stop Wasting Food is a Partner in a EU FUSIONS research project against food waste – with 21 Partners from EU, among them The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

FLW Protocol

Stop Wasting Food is a co-developer of the global Food Loss & Waste Protocol with many acknowledged international stakeholders. The purpose of the protocol is to standardize the measurement of food losses and food waste throughout the entire value chain.
